How to Become a Christian

Who Is Jesus?

Jesus is God, come to Earth to show us all the way back to God. Jesus came to break down barriers, to knock down divisions, and to show all who would listen that God deeply and passionately desires a closer relationship with all of us. Jesus, through his teachings, his actions, his healings, and his death and resurrection, opened the way for us all to live better lives in loving community with God and with each other. He opened the way of salvation to everyone.

What Is Salvation?

Salvation is eternal life and deliverance from eternal death.  Salvation is God’s free gift to us and when we accept this gift, we become His children. Jesus matters because, He is the only way to Salvation. “There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.” — Acts 4:12 NLT

You were created for a relationship with God and Jesus is the only way to a relationship with God.  John 14:6 NLT says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”

HOW DO I RECEIVE SALVATION?

  • Admit that you are a sinner in need of God’s forgiveness. Romans 3:23 NIV tells us, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” We were born under the power of sin’s control.
  • Understand that as a sinner, you deserve death.Romans 6:23a tells us, “…The wages of sin is death…” Sin has an ending. It results in death. We all face physical death, which is a result of sin. But a worse death is spiritual death that alienates us from God, and will last for all eternity.
  • Believe Jesus Christ died on the cross to save you from sin and death.
Romans 6:23b: tells us, “…But the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Salvation is a free gift from God to you!  We can’t earn this gift, but we must reach out and receive it.  Romans 5:8: tell us, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us!” When Jesus died on the cross, He paid the penalty for our sin. Because He loved us, He gave Himself for us!  Give your life to God. His love poured out in Jesus on the cross is your only hope to have forgiveness and change. His love is what saves you. God loves you and reaches you just as you are!
  • Receive His free gift of salvation!  Romans 10:9,10 says, “…If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.” God is knocking on your heart door; ask Him to come into your heart.

Romans 10:13 tells us, “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved!”

Call out to God in the name of Jesus! Receive His free gift of salvation! If you are not sure whether you are right with God or you know in fact that you need Jesus in your life, you can choose to follow Him right now by praying a prayer of surrender to Jesus.

Dear Lord Jesus,

I thank you for offering me the gift of eternal life.  I realize that I did not earn this gift, but today I receive it. I no longer want to live for myself, but I want to live for you.  I confess with my mouth that you are my Lord and King. I believe in my heart that you died for my sins and that God raised you from the dead.  I receive you into my heart. I thank you for forgiving me of my sins and making me right with you. Teach me to be more like you and to live for you each day.  In your name I pray. Amen.

Congratulations! To pray these words with a surrendered heart to Jesus is the beginning of the most important voyage you will ever embark on: the journey to follow Jesus. Please let us know if you’ve just made a commitment to Jesus and prayed this prayer.

Be part of a vibrant community.

You are not alone.
